Every morning in Africa, a deer wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the lion or it will be killed.I was waiting at the doctor's clinic yesterday evening while my attention was caught by this poster.
Every morning, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest deer or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter if you're a lion or a deer. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
Google and its related sites were not accessible the yesterday, while the other pages including facebook or twitter were loading successfully. Google, gtalk, gmail, reader... were totally out of service to the BSNL broadband users. I could neither google to find out a solution for this. ;)

Having experienced frequent shut downs on my laptop which I described earlier, formatting Windows Vista and installing Windows 7 did not help. I decided to visit a Sony Service station who thoroughly did a root cause analysis and found that the processor fan was not functional any more.

Pink - The color which all gals prefer over any given color. Women of all ages, be it a teenager, a little gal of age six or even an old lady of 60 admire. Pink, in other words is always referred to "girly" and hated by guys. If a guy admires "pink" or wears a pink shirt by any chance, they guy is treated like a gay!
Though, guys love red, they hate pink to such an extent that they express with weird expressions on their face. Whereas, we gals chose pink in lipstick, shoes, shirt, skirt, curtains, cell phones (oh, that moto phone) or even pink scooty ;)
A fortnight ago, my mother and her friend had been for shopping and bought many household stuffs including a dustbin. When my father noticed he dustbin at a corner of the house, he yelled, "Why pink? :( " with a weird expression.
We ladies, don't even spare a pink dustbin. ;)

I sometimes wonder, what makes a country strong: is it the huge buildings, posh roads, etc or the strong wise men to build a nation? Is it not that both the former and latter are equally essential? Is it so the former can be accomplished only if we have the latter ones??? The latter ones say that there is no reason to be here since there is no career and recognition for merit. The latter ones remember that they once belonged to this land and come back when their kids begin to grow up in a foreign land. As for me, just because the neighbouring house aunty is modern and gorgeous, I can't stay at her house as a guest for a long time and can't love her as much as I love my mother. No matter how ever my mother is, I love her and the love is eternal.
On thursday morning, while I was stuck up in a traffic jam as usual, my attention was caught by the two little kids aged around 10-12 years who were asking the car owners or the bike riders at the traffic signal to buy the tricolor flags or the badges. But nobody even bothered to look at them. I was watching this through the window of the bus which was far away from those kids. Many people speak of abolishment of child labour and lengthy speeches on it, if they are so concerned why wouldn't they help those kids by buying a flag/badge which would cost them less than Rs 10/- or did they think it was a waste of money buying them? The child wasn't begging or stealing. He had chosen a path of decent living.
At office, grand celebrations went on in the evening which included cultural dances and finally concluded by National Anthem. All of us stood up, no matter we were eating or hurrying for the bus. There was some sort of oneness to which all of us are bound to.
For those people, who work on daily wages. Those who sustain eating once a day or thrive with hunger for days together, who don't even have voters card nor a shelter to protect them, it was just another day in their life.

Everyday, I listen to music while traveling in the bus. Today, I was listening the songs from Rang De Basanti, I came across - Ik Onkar. Though, I knew "OM" is considered to be scared among Hindus and it is chanted before any prayer, say, Om Namah Shivaiah, I had never known the meaning of "Ik Onkar" which I learnt today. :)
OM is a compound Sanskrit word , which we consists of the three letters:
अ + उ + म = ॐ
ಅ + ಉ +ಮ = ಓಂ
OM represents the trimurtis:
अ for Brahma - The Universal Creator
उ for Shiva - The Universal Destroyer
म for Vishnu - The Universal Protector.
Ik Onkar means there is only ONE God. According to the Sikh philosophy, it is the opening part of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and also Mool Mantar(Main prayer) in the Sikh scriptures.

We, Bangaloreans, have been facing severe power cuts at random intervals. First, it was the petrol price hike followed by LPG prices reaching sky. Now, we are running out of electricity in the Silicon City.
The roads have been dug up which are still under construction. No idea when the potholes will be closed. And these power cuts in the night!! I carry a torch in my bag everyday such that it will be easy for me to walk home while coming back from work during the late evenings. Self-help is the best help :) Next time, you go out and if you are reaching home late in the evening, then do remember to take a torch with you because power-cuts are frequent.I received this mail as a measure to conserve the power. Hence, I am just copying and pasting it here. :)
Hi all,As we all know that electricity is now not available in abundance and is becoming priced commodity.
Let us do our bit to save electricity.
Please follow below steps to hibernate your PC.
First Step:
Please hibernate your PCs to save electricity. Steps to enable hibernations are given as below.
This works in windows XP and above.
1] Go to start >> control panel >> Power settings.
2] Go to 'hibernate' tab and click on 'enable hibernation '
Once this is done, the PC will have a 'hibernate' option also when you shut down the PC. You can as well use the same instead of shut down.
3] Go back to control panel, scheduled tasks
4] Add a new scheduled task (right click à new scheduled task). Name it as Hibernate
6] In the run option, copy paste the following
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
7] Check the Run only if logged on checkbox
8] Go to Schedule tab and schedule it to run on 'n' minutes of being idle
This can be added in every PC, then even if you are lazy to do a manual hibernate, it will automatically do the same if the system is idle for the specified number of minutes. All you need is to lock the PC and go home and start it the next day!:)
Second Step:
Let us all switch off the PCs and the main power switches before leaving for the day. If something needs to be executed in our absence after our EOD let us switch off the monitor and the main switch giving power to Desktop.
Third Step:
Let us switch off the fans and lights before leaving office if none are using them.Fourth Step:
Let us follow electricity saving steps in our homes too.
Fifth Step:
Let us propagate this among our colleagues/friends/teams and increase the energy conservation and Power savings. Thanks for your co-operation!!
I hope we can contribute little to save the resources :)
Sometimes, we think big and expensive stuffs make us smile or bring happiness. We thrive hard to make our dreams come true. At the same time, we forget that small things make us happy. Few things in life are priceless!
If you cannot be happy with small things, how can you be happy with big things? :)
Today is World Environment Day. I have been seeing less greens of late. Why don't we take small steps to save Mother Earth? Though, it might be hard initially, it is not impossible.
My list goes here:
My list goes here:
- Use of plastic bags/bottles and throwing them on the road. Few people litter wherever they find space which is too annoying. Why not use paper bags?
- Instead of burning confidential papers which cannot be given to recycling shop, why not shred them? :)
- People going in the same route can pool car/bike saving petrol too. OMG, petrol and LPG prices are reaching the sky.
- Switch off the monitor when not in use and if u are not using them for a long time-shut down the computer/laptops. This applies to all the electric appliances, too.
- Some people spit everywhere on the road, thus creating an eye sore. Many so called educated people litter in the buses or public area. Why don't they discard the garbage in the dust bins.
- The flyovers and digging of roads is another cause too.
- Plant a tree for each house if less space or no of trees=no of people in the house :)
- Even refrigerators emit lot of CFC(chloro fluoro carbon) which break the O3 structure of the ozone layer. Instead, use earthern pots during summer :D
- Few advertisements on the roadside also require a tubelight lit the whole night. Is it necessary?
- I appreciate the Chinese adoption of cycling and thus it compulsory. This not only reduces the pollution and traffic but also reduces weight and helps us to stay fit and fine. In most western or European countries, people cycle in summer and use car during winter.
I casted my vote in the Karnataka Assembly Elections. The process of searching my name in their list was a heck. The voting slip was issued to a few. Some of my neighbours and myself hadn't been issued the voting slips though we already owned the Voters Card. A day before, my dad had taken a printout from the website for this reason.
We went along with the printout and told them that we weren't issued any voting slips and gently showed them the voters card. They searched our names in their huge booklet and finally found the names.
At the desk, I told the first person sitting: "We were not issued the voting slips. We have the voters card and here's the number." He noted number on another pink slip gave it to me. I was annoyed the way that fellow questioned me-"Whats your age? Have you voted before or is it the first time you're voting?" Crap!!! Why the hell he wants my age? Hadn't I been 18, I wouldn't have been issued the Voters card to vote! ..why does he want to know if I had voted before or not? I remained silent, went ahead, signed in their register. A lady, with the tiny ink bottle applied the ink on my index finger. The length of the ink being half an inch, maybe. She reset the electronic voting machine for each new person. I went ahead and cast my vote.
After coming home, I kept looking at the ink on my index finger. It was still "light blue". I tried to rub it while it was wet and it didn't vanish ;) Today morning, I checked my finger and the ink color had turned black. I asked my dad repeatedly, when this mark would disappear. I guess it may take a week or so!
As far whom I cast my vote, it will be confidential and it should. There are several things which shouldn't be questioned and cannot be answered ;)
With a hope of getting my iPod fixed, I visited the Apple showroom at Forum a month ago. Even if the iPod didn't function well, it was only "hope" in me, since I had an year warranty for my iPod which includes replacement, too :)
As I entered the chilled-air crowded showroom, I went to the cash counter complaining to him that my iPod isn't functioning properly. He directed me to the service desk which was just behind the cash counter. I noticed that there were few people who had faced similar issues with their iPod like me ;)
Me: I am facing lots of problem with this iPod... Whenever I connect it to my PC, iTuNes pops out a message saying that the iPod is "corrupt". And sometimes, it doesn't get charged :(
He: Ooh.. What version of iTunes are using? The version installed on your computer?
Me: some 7.4.... i guess... Don't remember the exact version, though. Whenever, broadband is connected, iTunes downloads the latest version along with Safari.
He: See, ma'am...you gotta install the latest version always... that's why you're facing such problem...
Me: (sounds stupid!) Its not the software problem... Its the hardware problem... Even without iTunes, Windows pops out a message that the "device connected may not function properly".
He: Its a software issue in your iPod... anyways, I'll reinstall iTunes...
Me: (Dumb, fellow! Its a hardware issue and what the hell is he saying???) Ok... reinstall it...
He connects the iPod to the Mac machine which has Windows installed.
He: May be some virus infect to your iPod.
Me: My PC is virus free.... Even if I connect it at my workstation, I scan for the virus... Its virus-free... Its a hardware problem.... why are you reinstalling the software??? I don't face such problem when I connect a pen drive... Even without iTunes, iPod should behave as a hardisk!
He: ma'am.. I shall reinstall it... Let me know if you face the problem again...
Me: (To hell with you! I'm telling you that its a hardware prob and you're saying its software??) What if I face the same thing again???
He: No worries... I will replace it with a new one...
Me: (Why shouldn't I worry? I've made a huge investment on the brand name-"Apple" whose service people can't even figure out that its a clear hardware issue and not software!)
He: It would take sometime for installation....
Me: fine...
Meanwhile, I was gazing at the displays. A triband transistor/radio costs Rs 3599/- I was awe stuck to learn its prize. A couple of years ago or even now, handy pocket sized radios are sold for less than 100 bucks. Even Philips transistor is available for 175 bucks! "Apple"-got it? I, also needed a pouch for my iPod. After checking out few pouches, bought a cute leather pouch for Rs 1099/- Brand Name, you see!
After half an hour, the installation was done. I was given my iPod. I walked out of the showroom annoyed. It was a bad experience, totally. Never expected such a service from Apple!
Two days later, I connected iPod to my workstation. Due to virus infected iPod, my account got locked! At home, I connected it to my PC, scanned for virus. Altogether, 9 trojans were found. That fellow formatted iPod and introduced trojans! Sick!!! The antivirus was up-to-date and hence they were quadratined at a single click :)
Till to-date, it's working fine :) I wish I wouldn't visit the place again ;-)
Moral: I've learnt that I should never go by the so called Brand-Name and just because other suggest or won something, one shouldn't be running after it. Few had suggested me to own an iPod rather than Creative Wide Screen player since its service was better than Creative's.
As for iPod is considered, I'm glad that it recovered :D ...and I love the sound clarity touch pad and of course the design though it lacks many features as in Creative. It isn't bulky at all!
We learn from experiences, don't we?
I had a weird experience on Sunday morning. My friend and I were headed to Mysore. Having slept only for 4.5 hours, I woke up early and reached Majestic sharp 7:45am. With no breakfast in the morning, I was hungry. For munching while travelling in the bus, I bought few snacks from a nearby shop: Mirinda 600ml, Kurkure and Good Day biscuits. Altogether, these would cost me only Rs 40/- if I was wise enough to buy it near my house. Instead I landed up paying 45 bucks much more than the MRP printed on each of them.
This isn't the only place where people are forced to pay more than MRP. In most places, where bus halts or be it railway station, sellers DO demand more than MRP. And we end up paying more :(
Why is it this way, everywhere? :-| [Indifferent smiley]

Why is it this way, everywhere? :-| [Indifferent smiley]
Here I am, in the food court having my breakfast alone in the mornings. A friend of mine sees me and with a broad smile asks: "Don't you get bored eating alone?" I said,"Why should I? I love spending time on myself. Got it?"
A friend of mine-"Why don't you buy a laptop?"
"Why? For what should I go for it?"
"Since you are earning, its affordable! Sell off your desktop."
(Annoyed)"My PC is in a good condition. Moreover, it serves my purpose. Just because I earn, I can't invest a huge amount on dumb advices."
This incident happened several weeks ago when I was on my way to a friend's house. The lady who stays in neighborhood, with a wicked smile interrupted me-"Enamma channagi dress maadkondu ello hort haag ide"(Hey there, dressed well-where are you headed to?) I was annoyed by such interrogation. Wondered what on earth made her ask this. Instead of minding her work, she was more enthusiastic to keep a record of others routine. I was getting late and replied with a plastic smile-"prati sala naanu elli hodru keLthiralla :| "(Whenever I step out of my house, you are keen to know where I am going) That was the last time she questioned me. Whew, now I'm freed from explanations to others.
The other day, while talking to my friend regarding onsite opportunities. He said,"Why do you gals need to go onsite alone?" It annoyed me-"Guys can digest the fact when gals race them in several aspect!" What was bothering him if gals go onsite?
There are several things which shouldn't be asked neither answered. Some people intend to ask such several annoying questions-can't judge if its out of their stupidity or intentionally want to hurt you!

ABOUT ME

I'm a quintessential Bangalorean living in Sydney, Australia. I love photography and blogging that goes very well while I trek or travel. I'm an outdoor person and play tennis and swim whenever I find time. I enjoy reading books during daily commute. I enjoy cooking and prefer spice over sweet. I do love music and blessed to play divine Veena. I'm an amateur flautist.
...I have been blogging since 2005.
